The disposable cell phone disintegrated as Richards watched it run over by a truck in the rearview mirror. No one would be able to pull data off of its ground circuit boards, so he returned his concentration to the problem at hand as Costell kept the car at a steady speed.

"They'll know we're in position," the pilot pronounced. "And if they're as good as we think they are, they might realize that we don't have our eyes on the target just yet."

"Undoubtedly," Richards returned. "But until we've narrowed down our options, we can't make a move."

"So, what do we do?" Costell asked.

"Get the information we need the old-fashioned way," Richards stated. "I'm going to look up Cornell."

"That's giving up an awful big advantage," Costell stated.

"Trading one advantage for another, my friend," Richards countered. "The Rose Initiative knows what our ultimate goal is, especially if they've been going after my competition."

"We don't even know who this enemy is," Costell noted. "They might be off the grid."

"It's a possibility," Richards stated. "Damn shame."

"What is?" Costell asked.

"That he's on their side."

Costell's brow furrowed. "The Initiative?"

"No. He's on the side of the status quo," Richards noted. "The Initiative hasn't changed its goals, it's just made us the scapegoat and wants to eliminate us. Ultimately, the Initiative is still working to make the world better for all our sakes."

"At the cost of its pawns," Costell interjected.

Richards nodded grimly.

The pair drove on.
